Driver CPC – A Close Run Thing with CVS Ltd

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is a qualification for professional bus, coach and lorry drivers. In the UK Driver CPC has been split into two phases. The first phase, launched in September 2008, made it compulsory for all bus and coach drivers to hold a Driver CPC if they want to drive for a living. The second phase took effect from 10 September this year and places the same obligation on lorry drivers.

If you held a vocational licence to drive buses and coaches before 10 September 2008 or for lorries before 10 September 2009, you are exempt from the initial qualification test under what is known as 'acquired rights'. Professional bus and coach drivers with acquired rights have until September 2013 to complete 35 hours of periodic training. Professional lorry drivers with acquired rights have until September 2014.
