Matthew tells us a bit about himself and his role in the business...
Name: Matthew Nordan
Role: Trainee Underwriter
Length of time with business: Two years
1. Briefly explain your role
I’ve recently started a new role as Trainee Underwriter in the soft asset team which involves looking at incoming proposals and making recommendations to the more senior underwriters as to whether I think we should accept, decline or ask for further information and why. As I’ve only been in this role for three weeks now, there’s still plenty for me to learn but that’s what makes it thoroughly enjoyable.
2. What do you enjoy most about you role?
The thing I enjoy most is the challenge and the learning – no two proposals are the same and each new proposal I look at raises different questions which thankfully the other members of the soft asset team are happy to answer. Whether they will feel the same after a couple of months remains to be seen, they might be sick of me by then! Each day brings a new challenge, making the days race by and gives me great job satisfaction.
3. How would you describe your work ethic?
My work ethic is work hard, play hard. That way the harder I work, the more I get to reward myself!
4. If you could be an animal what would you be and why?
A peregrine falcon, because flying at a top speed of 240mph sounds brilliant!
5. If you weren’t in work now, what would you be doing?
If I could choose anything I’d like to spend a year going to every single Formula One race, taking in the various locations and maybe squeezing a lap or two in!
6. Which of your colleagues would you like to nominate to feature next in meet the team and why?
I’d like to nominate Ian Willetts as I’ve worked with Ian on a number of larger deals and would love an insight into what his role entails.
