Meet...Michael Tyler

Michael tells us a little bit about himself and his role in the business.

Name: Michael Tyler
Role: Broker Development Manager
Length of time with business: Two years and one month

1. Briefly explain your role

I am the Broker Development Manager responsible for the Central Region. I look after 38 brokers which include a number of our Agricultural brokers. I am the point of contact within Close Brothers Business Finance and my role is to work with my brokers to develop opportunities and help facilitate funding for our customers. Our business is built on our strong relationships with our brokers and this is very important to maintain in this role.

2. What do you enjoy most about your role?

The role is very dynamic; one of the most enjoyable parts of the role for me is getting out and meeting our brokers and hirers. We fund a wide range of assets and provide finance to a multitude of sectors.  I enjoy coming across different assets and interesting business concepts, the challenge that can sometimes come with trying to structure the right deal. It is a role where you feel you can help make a difference, whether helping a business to fulfil a new contract by funding additional equipment or providing refinance of unencumbered assets to allow a customer to invest or grow the business.

3. How would you describe your work ethic?

I’m always looking to broaden my knowledge base. I’ve been working in asset finance for just over two years and I am always looking to try and develop my skill set and expertise. It is important to have an understanding of the markets our customers operate within and a good knowledge base of a wide range of assets.

4. If you could be an animal what would you be and why?

Bailey

Tough question, I’m not sure what animal I would like to be, maybe a House Martin or a Swallow, something like that as they spend the winter in sunnier climes - I think they’ve got the right idea! Otherwise I would have to be my sausage dog Bailey as she lives the life of Riley!

5. If you weren’t in work now, what would you be doing?

If I wasn’t at work now I would be in my workshop at home with the radio on working on my boat. I trained as a traditional wooden boat builder, for me it is the ultimate chill time. If I was feeling like being a bit more active I would probably be out hiking, canoeing or dinghy sailing.

6. Which of your colleagues would you like to nominate to feature next in meet the team and why?

Toni Scruton, our Operations Manager, because she is one the linchpins of our business and looked after me when I first joined the team.
