Close Brothers Modern Merchant Banking

Close Brothers Asset Finance was founded in 1987

Since then we have grown and expanded, and now have multiple offices across the UK including our head office in Wimbledon, as well as offices in Chester, Burton, Glasgow, Sidcup and Manchester.

Just like in 1987, we remain focused on markets and services we know and understand. We have developed long-term relationships with our customers to fully understand their intricate business operations in order to support their long term growth.

Why choose Close Brothers for Asset Finance?

Just as no two businesses are the same, neither are asset finance providers. With us, it’s the combination of our people, products and principles that make the difference.

Our people

Our people

As you would expect, our people are experts in asset finance. But they also have extensive knowledge of your industry. This experience means our team really understand the challenges their customers face. You can rely on them to be a consistent and proactive point of contact, on hand throughout the life of the finance contract and beyond, building lasting relationships.

Our products

Our products

Our straightforward products and services are designed to promote business investment and growth. We don’t provide standard packages, but consider all relevant aspects of your business and then create tailor-made, flexible repayment schedules to suit. With minimal capital outlay, our asset finance enables you to invest in new equipment or refinance existing assets to make them work harder for you.

Our principles

Our principles

We are committed to helping our customers make the right financial decisions. We base our lending decisions on the overall health and plans for the business – not just a credit rating. But we’re careful lenders too, a decision that fails to take account of risk factors and wider market forces is not in anyone’s interest. With local teams throughout the UK and Ireland, we can respond quickly to your requests for information and lending decisions. In fact, we aim to give you a decision within days, sometimes hours.

Treating customers fairly

We have policies and training in place to ensure our staff can identify vulnerable customers and that they are treated fairly in our interaction with them. This remains an area of focus for our customer forums and through regular thematic reviews of our conduct.

We recognise that our suppliers are a key part of the service we provide to our customers, and are committed to treating them fairly. We are therefore pleased to maintain our Corporate Certification for Ethical Procurement from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (“CIPS”).

The SME Finance Charter

We're open for business and ready to lend

Our prudent model, based on a strong financial position and balance sheet, has allowed us to continue to lend and support our customers in a wide range of market conditions over the last 30 years. Many of our businesses lend principally to SMEs, both through our direct sales force and via broker distribution channels. This includes our Asset Finance business, which provides commercial asset financing, hire purchase and leasing solutions for a diverse range of assets and sectors, and our Invoice and Speciality Finance business that works with over 2,000 small businesses providing debt factoring, invoice discounting and asset-based lending. We are confident that this model will continue to serve us well as we remain committed to supporting our customers now and into the future.

We'll help you build back better after Covid-19

We remain committed to supporting our customers and clients as the economy recovers following Covid-19. Each of our diverse, specialist businesses have deep industry knowledge so they can understand the challenges and opportunities that our customers and clients face. We work with a wide variety of businesses of many sizes to help support their growth, improve their infrastructure or invest in new assets, and have a deep understanding of our customers' needs and the markets they operate in. Our relationship managers are always there to discuss any concerns or requirements you may have, and to help make sure you have access to the finance you need when it matters the most.

We'll support your application and signpost other options if needed

We pride ourselves on understanding the needs of SMEs and on helping them to achieve their ambitions. Our specialist expertise and deep industry knowledge allow us to support our customers unique commercial ambitions, and by better understanding businesses and their communities our local teams can make fast, reliable lending decisions when they need them most.

We'll treat you fairly at all times

Our code of conduct and key customer principles ensure that we seek the right outcomes for our customers, always endeavour to ensure our pricing is fair and appropriate, and are clear and consistent in the way we communicate. Taking the time to understand and build strong long-term relationships with our customers is part of our culture, and we care strongly about delivering excellent service and thinking that is both entrepreneurial and disciplined, and always acting with integrity.
