Clean Air Zones (CAZs) and Low Emission Zones (LEZs) are being introduced across the UK – our solutions can help your business avoid high charges and potential fines.

What are CAZs and LEZs?

CAZs and LEZs are defined areas where action is being taken to improve air quality – many include an area where vehicles which do not meet low emission standards are charged for entering.

There are 4 types of Clean Air Zones:

Class A - Buses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles
Class B - Buses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles, heavy goods vehicles
Class C - Buses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, vans, minibuses
Class D - Buses, coaches, taxis, private hire vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, vans, minibuses, cars, the local authority has the option to include motorcycles

Where are they being introduced?

Clean Air Zones and Low Emission Zones will undoubtedly affect businesses across the UK.

Currently, these cities have Clean Air Zones:

Aberdeen has a Low Emission Zone
Bath has a Class C Clean Air Zone
Birmingham has a Class D Clean Air Zone
Bradford has a Class C Clean Air Zone
Bristol has a Class D Clean Air Zone
Dundee has a Low Emission Zone
Edinburgh has a Low Emission Zone
Glasgow has a Low Emission Zone
Portsmouth has a Class B Clean Air Zone
Sheffield has a Class C Clean Air Zone

Avoid charges of up to £100 per day

The charges for non-compliant vehicles entering the zones are high. For example, to enter London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone, vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (including cars, motorcycles and vans) pay a daily charge of £12.50 and heavier vehicles over 3.5 tonnes (including lorries, buses and coaches) pay a daily charge of £100.

To avoid high charges when entering the zones, vehicles need to meet the following emission requirements:

Euro VI for buses, coaches and HGVs
Euro 6 for diesel LGVs (vans, taxis)
Euro 4 for petrol
