Meet the Expert: Dawn Tuck, Regional Sales Manager
Dawn is a Regional Sales Manager within our Manufacturing team, we caught up with her to find out her outlook for the industry and her favourite part of the role
Briefly tell us about your role and what you do…
As a Regional Sales Manager in the Manufacturing team, a lot of my work involves overseeing a team of two Area Sales Managers (ASMs) while managing my own portfolio of customers. My customers are central to my work, and I strive to be a trusted business partner committed to their needs, fostering sustainable growth for their company.
I also support my ASMs by sharing knowledge, experience, industry contacts, and participating in joint visits. Prioritising face-to-face, on-site interactions, means that I spend significant time with customers. Additionally, I build relationships with industry contacts, professionals, and member organizations to stay updated with industry developments and offer a broader 'value add' proposition for the SMEs we work with.
What was your journey to Close Brothers Asset Finance?
I began my career at NatWest, spending 17 years managing portfolios in a B2B capacity from SMEs to large corporates. From there, I transitioned over to Lombard Asset Finance where I spent the next 14 years in a similar arena, before advancing to a Director, leading a team of 9 Business Development Managers in the SME-to-large corporate space, across the South of England.
Before joining Close Brothers Asset Finance in March 2024, I worked in a Business Development capacity at both Santander and ABN AMRO until they exited the market, focusing on the Manufacturing and Transportation sectors in the SME and mid-large corporate arena. I also took a break from Asset Finance and spent some 3 and a half years with the law firm FBC Manby Bowdler as Head of Business Development, which was an invaluable learning experience, combining extensive finance knowledge with a legal perspective.
What has been your favourite part of the role so far?
The best part has been helping customers find solutions that meet their needs, whether they are my own or those of the wider team. Becoming a trusted business partner for the future and knowing that my team values my support and guidance is also very rewarding.
The most satisfying element has been contributing positively to both my customers' and my team's achievements.
What assets have you found are the most ‘in demand’ at the moment?
There is a strong demand for engineering and manufacturing assets that support multiple sectors, such as CNC machines. I have found that my customers are primarily looking for used machinery rather than new.
We are also identifying a significant number of businesses looking for refinancing across various assets as businesses seek to raise cash for different purposes.
Additionally, mergers and acquisitions are prevalent, with mature owners deciding to step down and pass the business on to the next generation.
What do you think 2026 holds for the manufacturing sector?
The sector continues to navigate its way through a challenging and uncertain climate, and because of various factors, there is an evident pause on recruitment and investment.
That said, the manufacturing sector has always been resilient and will undoubtedly continue to seek ways to adapt and thrive, which is where Close Brothers Asset Finance can support by exploring options and solutions to assist.
Whether it's upgrading older technology to improve efficiencies in production, refinancing existing assets to raise cash for investment, supporting expansion, diversification, or mergers and acquisitions, we can tailor a range of options to suit.
Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?
I love making memories by spending time with family and friends. Whether it's enjoying a meal together, exploring new places, or simply relaxing, they provide a balance to my professional life.
